Counselling can help
Depression isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s not something you can “just snap out of”. Antidepressants can be helpful for reducing symptoms.
Counselling is an effective treatment either alone or in combination with medications. Counselling can help to pinpoint life events that contributed to depression and help to find ways to change, accept or adapt to those situations.
It can help set realistic goals for the future and identify distorted thought processes or unhelpful behaviours that contribute to feelings of hopelessness and helplessness. In therapy you learn to develop skills to cope with symptoms and problems and identify or prevent future episodes of depression.
